Knitting and crochet retreat - Saturday 7th to 14th October 2023

What is a retreat?

A retreat is a knit’n’natter that lasts for days with no worries about what to cook for supper! Guests bring along the projects of their choice – knitting, crochet or stitching. There are no set workshops, but everyone swops ideas, tips and patterns. There is a pop up shop selling knitting and crochet kits, buttons, beads, yarn bowls and other hand turned wooden gifts. There is also a large library of knitting and crochet books to browse through during the holiday.

During the course of the week there will be outings to local towns for sight-seeing and shopping. The outings are optional and can be changed to suit everyone.

The venue

The Barn at Bercloux is a superb conversion from two old farm buildings, situated in a small hamlet just outside of Brizambourg it is surrounded by vineyards and quiet country lanes. The house is tastefully decorated in vintage French style, with 7 guest bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and toilet and the other four bedrooms share a bath & shower room and two toilets. There is a large, comfortable sitting room and separate dining room. The garden is mostly lawn with a terrace and 10m swimming pool (open from May to September, weather permitting). The Charente-Maritime has a micro climate which means similar weather to the South of France. October is often still warm and sunny during the day, but cool enough for a log fire in the evening. I love this time of year, with bright blue skies and the orange and golden shades of autumn. It is a time to start thinking of projects for Christmas gifts, the perfect opportunity to sit and knit or crochet for a whole week.

The hosts

Sue and Culli, welcome you as house guests, there are no rules and regulations. You can help yourself to tea and coffee any time of day or night and wine is served with lunch and supper. Sue and Culli live in the cottage next door to The Barn and are on site at all times.

Enjoy delicious home cooked food, made from seasonal produce, special dietary requirements can be catered for, but please provide a detailed list of what you can or cannot eat.

Note: if you have a serious food allergy there is a possibility of cross contamination.

Cost

Please note all prices are in Euros.

The cost of the holiday includes accommodation, all meals at the venue, pre-dinner drinks, wine, unlimited tea and coffee, outings to local towns and a free transfer from Bordeaux airport or Saintes station. All you need to do is get yourself to France with your projects and we do the rest!  Remember to bring a bit of money for refreshments on outings and of course shopping!
