Sue and John (Culli) Culligan are your hosts at The Barn in
the Charente-Maritime region of France. They moved to France from Sussex in
2004 and love the French way of life.
Sue is a knitting designer, you can purchase her patterns on Ravelry or at her online store, Knitkits. She learnt to knit at an early age and has been hooked on knitting, colour, textiles and design since then. Sue has worked
with yarn since her early twenties as a freelance designer and running her own yarn shop.
Knitting holidays in France was an opportunity to start a business in France combining her love of knitting, crochet and cooking. Both Sue and Culli are keen cooks and serve delicious home cooked meals every day at the retreats and workshops using
seasonal vegetables, some of them fresh from the potager at the end of the
Culli is an architect, the working drawings of The Barn was
one of his first projects in France. He still works part-time on design projects
for French and English clients but also helps Sue run the knitting and crochet
retreats. Since the lockdowns in 2020 he has
discovered a talent for baking. His Sourdough bread is becoming a
favourite with friends and he is looking forward to serving it up to guests for
breakfast. Culli is also a keen wood-turner, his beautiful yarn bowls and other designs are for sale in the pop up shop at Knitting Holidays in France.
The Barn is also available to rent as a self-catering holiday home during July and August, see details here.
